That title is a play on the song, “Video Killed The Radio Star”. The Internet is dying. Just ask Eric Jackson and his article, “Here’s Why Google and Facebook Might Completely Disappear in the Next Five Years.”
Web 1.0 was the traditional internet era of ebay, yahoo, AOL and other companies founded between 1994 and 2001. Web 2.0 are the social companies that were birthed between 2002 and 2009, such as facebook, linkedIn and Groupon. The dawn of the new era is upon us and that is mobile web.
As information managers we need to be ready for the challenges of content in a mobile world. The paradigm of paperless office was yesterday. Electronic records and business done via social media was just the beginning. Official records created and disseminated via tablets and blackberries are where we are going. Information creation, storage and retrieval is on a revolutionary front and as information managers we need to know what our clients are going to ask before they ask if we want to not go the route of netscape and stay relevant.
